The Fox network announced earlier this year that they’re reviving “The X-Files” paranormal series for a special six-episode run that is scheduled to air in January. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are reprising their roles as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, with production currently underway in Vancouver.
“The X-Files” is officially returning to television in 2016. The special six-part series will kick-off on January 24 with a two-night premiere, continuing on January 25. The series was a major hit for the Fox network from 1993 to 2002, that aired for nine seasons, with two feature films hitting the box office.
Production of “The X-Files” started on June 8 in Vancouver, and is scheduled to last through August 14. The series may have to endure scheduling conflicts from Duchovny and Anderson. Duchovny is starring in a new NBC series called “Aquarius” and Anderson is working on “Hannibal” and “The Fall” series.
“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break. The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories,” the show’s creator, Chris Carter said.
With the news of the revival, rumors are flying that Duchovny and Anderson are dating. Duchovny said that the two have never had a romantic relationship and that they have always been great friends. Despite the rumors, they shared a kiss at an encore during Duchovny’s tour of his new “Hell or Highwater” album last month.
“The whole thing about Gillian and I dating is so weird. It’s never happened,” he said. “It’s not going to happen; we’re friends,” Duchnovy said.
“There might even be more than an attraction but it’s not going to happen and it’s that frisson that has made it interesting in the series and continues to make it interesting,”Anderson hinted last year to the Hufftington Post that the two had a romantic relationship just before the series ended in 2002.
“Mulder, it’s me. Are you ready?” Anderson Tweeted in March.
“It’s been 13 years, hope my suits still fit,” Duchovny Tweeted back with the hash-tag #XFilesReunion.
One of the show’s daily call sheets was leaked and it revealed that the first episode will be called “My Struggle” and that it was written by series creator Chris Carter. The first episode of the 6-episode mini-series on Fox will air on January 24, 2016.
